Consignaciones Europeas Marítimas (Cemasa) has resumed its ten-year Norcanarias service between the port of Bilbao and the Canary Islands, which sails between Bilbao, Gijón, Marín, Las Palmas, Tenerife and, every twenty days, Arrecife, on the island of Lanzarote. The vessel, "Flintercoast, which provides the service, is 141 metres long and is capable of carrying 800 TEUs (international unit equivalent to a 20 foot container). The service, operated by TCN (Trasatlántica Compañía Naviera), of which Cemasa is the agent in Bilbao, has been specifically designed for container and conventional cargo.

Biopharmaceutical company Ikerchem is working on the laboratory design and small scale synthesis of new molecules with oncological applications.
