Iberdrola is heading an R&D project on the optimisation of electricity consumption and management

A consortium of 15 Spanish entities and 14 research centres, headed by Iberdrola Distribución Eléctrica S.A.U., has presented the Ministry of Industry, Tourism and Commerce with a proposal for a research project aimed at optimising low and medium voltage electricity consumption through new Active Demand Management mechanisms.

GAIA trains young unemployed professionals as ICT Sector Commercial Consultants

The Basque Country Telecommunications Cluster (GAIA) has launched two instances of the Course: "Commercial Management of ICT Sector Customers". Fifteen young people between 23 and 35 years of age will be taking part in one of the 205 hour courses, which will end on 26 March.

Gamesa and Bergé have formed an alliance to cater for wind turbine logistics

Gamesa Corporación Tecnológica and Bergé Negocios Marítimos have joined forces to create Compass Transworld Logistics (CTL), a venture in which the said companies hold a 51% and 49% interest respectively. CTL has been established to guarantee high-level logistics services with a view to shipping finished products manufactured by Gamesa to ports in the United States, Europe and China where the Bilbao shipping agent operates.

10 Basque Audiovisual companies have joined forces to promote the creative talent of the Basque Country through an innovative project, "EikenBANK", headed by the Basque Audiovisual Cluster

EikenBANK, a project bank where non-professional talent and producers interact, is the name given to a programme that has just been launched by the Basque Audiovisual Cluster (www.eikenbank.com). The peculiarity of the initiative lies in the fact that thanks to the proven capability of the 10 companies that have joined forces for this project (3Koma, Baleuko, Bilbovision, Canal Bizkaia, EiTB, Irusoin, Jarkatza, K2000, Orio Produkzioak y Pausoka) to co-operate and compete, each EikenBANK project will be developed, in all phases, until it reaches the market as an audiovisual product: the creative project of non-professionals will be developed by one or several producers and EiTB, as the driving force in the Sector, will buy and broadcast it.

Hollywood has secured the rights to the animation feature “Black to the moon”, which is in pre-production, by the Basque company Baleuko

The American company, Farcor Studios, has secured the rights for the USA and Latin America for the full feature animation film “Black to the moon” by the Basque company Baleuko, a member of Eiken-The Basque Audiovisual Cluster. The film, which is in its pre-production phase, already attracted great interest at its presentation at the last Cannes festival, MIPCOM 07.

Over 40 million tons of goods have gone through Bilbao Port for the first time

For the first time in its history, over 40 million tons of goods were registered at Bilbao Port in 2007. Trade with Atlantic European countries, which has increased by 3%, counts for almost half of the total. The main European markets are Russia, Spain and the United Kingdom. Container trade with the European Atlantic region, which was not very dynamic in 2006, has registered the highest increase in total figures with an 8% rise, especially with France and Finland.
