SENER has successfully completed several phases of the GAIA shield

The future GAIA mission, planned for December 2011, is a European Space Agency (ESA) project aimed at generating the largest known map of the galaxy. By means of two telescopes and their instruments, GAIA will observe and catalogue 2,000 million stars in the Milky Way. Furthermore, GAIA is expected to discover hundreds of thousands of celestial objects and to provide further proof on relativity and cosmology in general. SENER, one of the founding members of the Aerospace Cluster, HEGAN, is participating in the said project as supervisor of the GAIA shield, whose mission it will be to preserve the instruments at low temperatures and ensure the thermal stability of the optical elements.

A total of 24 clusters and aerospace groups from 11 European countries, including the Basque cluster, HEGAN, have constituted the European Aerospace Cluster Partnership (EACP) with a view to launching a permanent platform for mutual exchange, cooperation and the transfer of knowledge to promote innovative activities that will enable sector companies to consolidate their competitive positions in the world market.

The Basque aerospace industry will put its technology on display at the 48th edition of the Paris Airshow 2009, the International Aerospace Fair that will take place at Le Bourget airfield, Paris, from the 15th to the 21st of June. New orders will be secured for the A350XWB; a project in which Basque companies are actively involved.

Tecnalia develops new repair technology to extend the useful life of aircraft

Tecnalia Corporación Tecnológica a member of HEGAN, the Basque Country Aerospace Cluster and a member of its Technology Committee since the mid 1990s, through Inasmet,is heading the European IAPETUS project within the 7th Framework Programme aimed at developing new technology for repairing aircraft by means of composite patches applied to aircraft built of aluminium and of the new generation of compound materials. The object of the project is to extend the useful life of aircraft, improve reliability and reduce repair costs.

ITP signs contract with Rolls Royce to supply Low Pressure Turbines for the TRENT XWB which will power the Airbus A350 XWB

Industria de Turbo Propulsores, S. A. (ITP), and Rolls-Royce Plc, have signed a contract under which ITP will enter into a supplier partnership for the Low Pressure Turbine (LPT) of the Trent XWB, which will power Airbus’ new double-aisle star aircraft. The contract will imply a turnover of 4,900 million Euros over the course of the engine’s life.

The Basque Aerospace Cluster, HEGAN, will be present at Aeromart 2008, the largest international event in the sector, which, this year, will take place on the 3rd and 4th of December at Toulouse, the headquarters of one of the main European aerospace centres. HEGAN will be taking part in the event together with AERNNOVA, SENER, ACITURRI, DMP, Grupo TTT, SISTEPLANT and WEC, as well as the technology centres CTA and FATRONIK.

HEGAN pays tribute to Embraer, Rolls-Royce and the Basque Government during its 10th Anniversary celebrations

HEGAN, the Basque Aerospace Cluster has paid tribute to the companies Embraer and Rolls-Royce and to the Department of Industry of the Basque Government "for the trust and commitment displayed towards the Basque aerospace industry over the last fifteen years”. This public acknowledgement was offered within the framework of HEGAN's 10th Anniversary celebrations, which took place on 4 June at the Bilbao Exhibition Centre.
